Account Number Change

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Why have you changed account numbers?

A. AmeriCU has changed account numbers for those members whose account was originally based on their social security number (SSN) or tax identification number (EIN). This change has occurred order to assist in protecting your privacy, enhancing your security and to reduce the threat of identify theft. Please begin using your new account number immediately as the tellers will not be able to give it out after December 1st.

Q. I have an account number that is not based on my SSN or EIN, will this account number also change?

A. If your account number was not based on your social security number, (for example, starts with leading digits) your account number was not changed.

Q. How will the account number change affect my direct deposit?

A. Members direct deposit of paychecks, social security income or other automatic deposits will continue to post as they did before the account number change.

Q. What is AmeriCU’s ABA #, so that I can provide all of the necessary information to set up electronic payments or deposits to my account?

A. AmeriCU’s ABA or Routing number will not change; that number is located on the main page of our web site and is: 221 375 802.

Q. How will I access online banking or Telelink after the change?

A. You will need to utilize your new account number (and your existing access code / password) to gain access to either TeleLink (24 hour automated telephone) or Online Access (located at www.americu.org).

Q. Will I need a new Visa check card?

A. You will not need a new Visa check card/debit card to access your funds. Your existing card will continue to work for purchases or ATM withdrawals at participating organizations or networks.

Q. How will this affect my Online Bill Payment account?

A. If your User ID for Online Bill Payment was based on your existing account number with AmeriCU, your Bill Payment User ID will be replaced with your new AmeriCU system-generated account number. If you prefer to choose your own User ID not based on any account number you may do so by logging into your Bill Payment account. Choose the SERVICES Tab and follow the instructions.

Q. Can I use my old checks until they run out, or will I need to order them right away?

A. Your current supply of checks will continue to clear as they did before the account number change. It will not be necessary for you to re-order checks, and therefore, we encourage you to use up your current supply. When it’s time to re-order checks, if you choose AmeriCU’s check partner (Deluxe), the new account number will automatically print on your next check order.

Q. What if I order checks through a third-party, someone other than AmeriCU?

A. When you are ready to re-order, at that time you will need to provide them with your new account number. You can request the new check MICR line before your reorder, by calling, e-mailing or stopping in to an AmeriCU branch location. And of course the correct routing number (221 375 802) which has not changed.

Q. Will this change affect automatic payments that come out of my checking?

A. Automatic payments that are set up from your checking (or savings) accounts will continue to clear after the conversion. However, we encourage you to contact any of your payees and provide them with your new account number and the share ID that you would like the payments pulled from. This will ensure that your automatic payments will continue to clear well into the future. To obtain your new account number and share ID for your auto payments, call us or stop in to a branch at your convenience.

Q. Will new payment coupons be sent out for my loan or mortgage?

A. Your current supply of payment coupons (for AmeriCU loans or AmeriCU mortgage) will continue to work after the account number conversion. Upon re-issue, your new payment coupons will reflect your new account number. If you would like to receive replacement coupons after the account number change, please contact us (and remember to thoroughly destroy these, as with any financial statements, before disposing of them).

If you have any additional questions related to this change, please contact us at 1.800.388.2000, or email support@americu.org.
