AmeriCU Credit Union Awards $10,000 to Ten Area Students

ROME, NY — March 13, 2008 AmeriCU Credit Union has offered its scholarship program for the past 14 years, recognizing student members for academic excellence. This year, three additional $1,000 scholarships have been added, bringing the total to ten scholarships that were awarded on Monday, March 10th at AmeriCU’s Annual Meeting. The program was originally started as a means of assisting members to achieve their goals of higher education and representatives say they’re proud that the program has been expanded to award and recognize area students.

“At AmeriCU, we are proud to recognize the achievements of deserving students,” Joe Turczyn, AmeriCU Board Member and Chairman of the Scholarship Committee said. “We believe this is part of our commitment to being an active, involved and caring organization of the communities our members call home.” More than 85 applications were submitted for the consideration of the scholarship committee.

From those applications, the following students were rewarded: In the graduating High School senior category: Ashley Armstrong of Rome; Douglas Doolen of Verona; Craig Hunter of Auburn; Stacy Jackson of Vernon; Eileen Kain of Utica and Lauren Leonardson of Sterling.

In the Continuing College category: Kaitlin Bates of Rome; Zachary Johnson of Rome; Meghan Kusch of Rome and Brent Popovich of Rome.
