AmeriCU & the American Heart Association: Walking Together for a Lifesaving Cause

AmeriCU & The American Heart Association Walking Together For A Lifesaving Cause

For over a century, the American Heart Association (AHA) has been “a relentless force for a world of longer, healthier lives,” funding breakthrough research, education programs, advocacy, and quality care initiatives to combat heart disease and stroke—the nation’s #1 and #2 killers. Through efforts like CPR training, awareness campaigns, policy advocacy, and millions in life-saving grants, the AHA touches communities across America.

AmeriCU is a long-standing sponsor of three key AHA events in Central New York:

  • Saturday, March 7 – America’s Greatest Heart Run & Walk (Utica)
  • Sunday, April 12 – The Syracuse Heart Walk
  • Saturday, April 18 – The North Country Heart Walk

These events raise vital funds to support AHA research and local health programs—many AmeriCU employees, members, and their loved ones have been touched by heart disease, making this cause deeply personal to us.

Why It Matters to Us

Every walk, donation, and personal story helps fund critical advances—innovations in prevention, stroke and heart disease treatment, CPR education, and equitable health access. When you walk with AmeriCU, you’re walking with colleagues, neighbors, and friends—many of whom have been impacted by heart disease. This is our shared cause; together, we are making a difference.

As Vanessa Swejbka, AmeriCU’s Community Relations Manager, Executive Director of the AmeriCU Charitable Foundation, and an active AHA board member in Syracuse, shares:
“Supporting the American Heart Association aligns perfectly with AmeriCU’s mission to strengthen our communities and improve lives. Heart health impacts every family, and we’re committed to making a difference.”

Community Impact Beyond the Walk: Recess Reboot

AmeriCU is also proud to launch Recess Reboot, partnering with two school districts in the Adirondack region to fulfill their wish lists for PE equipment and active play items. This initiative helps kids stay active and promotes lifelong habits for heart health and wellness—because building healthier communities starts with our youngest members.
