At times, unanticipated expenses or unforeseen problems can leave you with too little cash in your checking account. Having a check returned due to insufficient funds can be a costly, inconvenient and potentially embarrassing experience.
At AmeriCU, we encourage you to do whatever you can to prevent overdrafts on your account and to always manage your finances responsibly. However, we know that life happens and want to save you from the additional merchant fees and possible damage to your credit history you might incur if a check is returned.
That’s why we offer Member Privilege®, a special overdraft service for members of AmeriCU Credit Union.
AmeriCU Credit Union may generally honor overdrafts up to the Member Privilege limit on your account. You will be charged our standard non-sufficient funds (NSF) fee of $28 for each overdrawn item created by check, ATM withdrawals or other electronic means paid under the limit. All negative balances must be brought positive within 30 days. AmeriCU Credit Union reserves the right not to pay if your account is not kept in good standing.
(Please note that for coverage on ATM and one-time debit card transactions, we are required by regulation to have you opt in for this portion of the program to be covered for these transactions. Coverage for ACH, checks and recurring debit card transactions is automatically added to eligible accounts.)
Member Privilege is a non-contractual courtesy which is available to individually/jointly owned accounts in good standing for personal or household use. AmeriCU Credit Union reserves the right to limit participation to one account per household and to discontinue this service without prior notice.
