The Friends of Fillmore Glen State Park is dedicated to our mission to support, promote and preserve Fillmore Glen State Park by offering educational and recreational programs and by organizing volunteer opportunities. We host Fillmore Days the second weekend in August to promote awareness of our park and raise funds for the programs and support we offer. Fillmore Days features a family fun field, the Parade of Tubs, Bathtub races, pedal car and bicycle derby. We have craft and artesian vendors, food trucks and beverage vendors, along with music and camper events. We are adding a Rubber Duck Scavenger hunt and a pie eating context this year. Fillmore Glen State Park is in a small rural community. The park often serves as the center of community where a Summer Recreation Program for youth is held, the youth soccer program and the ladies softball league among others things. Fillmore Days is a family focused, friendly event welcoming to all. We are proud to be able to offer this event to our community.
In August 2019, the Friends group brought back the ever-popular Fillmore Days and Bathtub Races, a beloved community event that had been suspended for about 20 years. An estimated 2,500 people attended, proving that good, clean fun never goes out of style. A Parks & Trails New York grant to enhance Fillmore Days and grow membership was awarded in 2020, and a signage grant for trail kiosks and educational displays was awarded in 2021. The success of these applications has encouraged the group to do more long range, strategic planning. Together with the park manager, many projects have been identified which would help to preserve the existing infrastructure, expand programming, extend the trail system, and improve visitor experiences. To implement these projects, the group will need additional funding and volunteers.
