Wellness Tip – Teaching Kids CPR Can Save Lives

Teaching Kids CPR

Every year, 350,000 people in the United States experience out-of-hospital cardiac arrests. These emergencies often occur at home, making it crucial for children to know how to respond, as they may be the first to act. Teaching kids to call 911 and unlock the front door for emergency services can significantly improve survival chances. However, knowing how to perform bystander CPR can triple the survival rate!

To help with this, AmeriCU has partnered with the American Heart Association to offer CPR training to kids participating in the Heart Run + Walk events If you visit the AmeriCU table at America’s Greatest Heart Run + WalkSyracuse Heart Run + Walk or North Country Heart Run + Walk, kids can get trained by an American Heart Association volunteer.

Don’t think your kid would know “Stayin’ Alive” by the Bee Gees? Here are some songs with a tempo of 100-120 bpm, perfect for CPR compressions, that they might recognize from their daily scrolls.

  1. “Not Like Us” – Kendrick Lamar
  2. “Texas Hold ‘ Em” – Beyonce
  3. “Espresso” – Sabrina Carpenter
  4. “Say So” – Doja Cat
  5. “Dance the Night” – Dua Lipa
