At AmeriCU, giving back is part of who we are—both as an organization and as individuals. Dyana Herrig O’Neill, Chief Experience Officer, exemplifies this commitment through her involvement with the Rome College Foundation (RCF), an organization dedicated to expanding access to higher education for students in the Rome community.
What inspired you to get involved with the Rome College Foundation?
I was introduced to the Rome College Foundation through a friend and quickly knew it was something I wanted to be involved in. I truly believe in the work RCF does for the youth in the Rome community. As the cost of a college education continues to increase, the Foundation makes every effort to ensure scholarship funds are awarded appropriately, working closely with local colleges to seek out applicants who can benefit most.
What’s something people might not realize about the work the Rome College Foundation does?
Many people may not realize that RCF enhances higher education opportunities at more than one level. The Foundation provides scholarships not only for students at the high school level, but also for those attending local colleges, helping support students throughout their educational journey.
Can you share a memorable moment that illustrates the impact of the organization’s work?
My favorite event hosted by RCF is the annual Student Teacher Achievement Recognition (STAR) Program. I enjoy hearing how a selected teacher has inspired a high school student—and how that inspiration is mutually reciprocated when the student shares how the teacher impacted their life. It’s incredibly rewarding for both individuals to reflect on their experiences together.
What accomplishment are you most proud of during your time with the organization?
One accomplishment I’m especially proud of is when RCF granted a significant donation to Mohawk Valley Community College to support the launch of the new Dental Hygiene program at its Rome campus. It’s a fantastic program that helps attract students to the Rome community while expanding educational opportunities in a critical field.
How can others support the Rome College Foundation or its mission?
There are many ways to get involved. Community members can support RCF by contributing to annual fundraisers, and individuals or local companies can collaborate with the Foundation to create local scholarships. RCF manages the full administration of these scholarships, making it easy to give back and support local students.
