AmeriCU & Mountain Valley Intent to Merge

Dear AmeriCU Members:

We are reaching out to let you know of an exciting development for AmeriCU!

Since 2023, AmeriCU Credit Union has been proud to serve the people and businesses of Clinton and Essex counties in the northeastern corner of our state. Today I am excited to announce plans to strengthen our presence and deepen our relationships in those two beautiful “Adirondack Coast” communities.

The boards of directors of AmeriCU and Mountain Valley Federal Credit Union, headquartered in the Clinton County town of Peru, have signed a formal letter of intent to merge later this year, pending approval by Mountain Valley’s members and state regulators.

If approved, Mountain Valley’s four branch locations will become AmeriCU branches – giving those who live in or visit those counties for recreation, relaxation, or business a convenient new way to access AmeriCU’s services.

These branches will make up AmeriCU’s Mountain Valley Region, our fourth region in New York State along with Central New York, Mohawk Valley, and the North Country. Our expanded credit union would then serve more than 171,000 members across 24 counties, with 25 locations and combined assets of $2.7 billion – creating an even stronger financial foundation for our members, our employees, and the communities we serve.

In addition to strategic growth opportunities, the merger will allow AmeriCU to further our mission of providing modern, innovative financial solutions to meet the needs of more communities, individuals, families, and businesses, fostering growth and development in New York State and beyond.

For Mountain Valley’s members, joining with AmeriCU will provide them with access to our far larger array of services and expertise, particularly in mortgages and other lending opportunities, as well as expanded services for the many small businesses that make up the fabric of those counties’ economies. Our new members will also benefit from the many technological advantages AmeriCU members have come to rely on, including Chat, remote applications, our call center, online/mobile services, cyber security, AI, shared branching, access to 35,000 ATMs and more.

While AmeriCU is larger than Mountain Valley, our two organizations are remarkably similar in our histories, in the communities, people and businesses we serve, in our commitment to community service, and in the values our employees bring to our work each day. For that reason, I am pleased to say that AmeriCU has invited all Mountain Valley employees to stay with us if the merger is approved, ensuring our new members see the same friendly faces they’ve come to know and depend on when entering their local branch. I am also thrilled that Mountain Valley President & CEO Maggie Pope, a well-known and highly regarded business leader in the two counties, will join AmeriCU as Regional Director of our Mountain Valley Region, overseeing the four branches and working to build even stronger relationships in the community.

A date for the Mountain Valley member vote has not yet been established, but it is likely to take place this Spring. There is no action needed by AmeriCU members. We simply wanted to keep you updated on this exciting opportunity. In the meantime, if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Thank you for being a valued member of AmeriCU.

Sincerely,
Ron Belle Signature
